Timeline

The town of Leander was established in 1882 but its history reaches back much further. Originally inhabited by historic Native Americans of the Tonkawa and Comanche Nations, then Anglos, mostly from the Appalachian region, and grew into a village called Bagdad. During the Mesozoic Era, at least two dinosaurs left their mark on Leander. Located on the South San Gabriel River are the fossilized footprints of two of our earliest residents, a acrocanthosaurs, a meat eater, and a sauropod, an herbivore.
